John Rugwe

Regional Manager, Central Africa

John has a wealth of expertise developed over 17 years managing projects and companies in the energy sector, both in Africa and North America, where he spent many years.

Prior to joining the power sector in Africa, John worked for Johnston-Vermette International/Optec Energy, Ausenco Engineering, Régie du Batiment du Québec and BPR-Bechtel all in Canada.

Over the last 10 years, he has been involved in the energy projects development space contributing to curb the power deficit in Sub-Saharan Africa. Likewise, he served as the Managing Director of a leading Independent Power Producer (IPP) in Rwanda where he led the development, financial structuring, procurement and construction of power assets.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree (BEng) in Mechanical Engineering from Université du Québec a Trois-Rivières in Canada and has received additional trainings in the field.
