Ana Palacio is a lawyer by training, specializing in international and European law, arbitration, and mediation. She is a member of the Boards of Enagás, PharmaMar, and AEE Power; of the International Advisory Boards of Investcorp and Office Chérifien des Phosphates; and of the Governing Council of the Instituto de Empresa. Ana Palacio serves on the Executive Board of The Atlantic Council of the United States, on the External Advisory Board of the Energy Futures Initiative, on the Advisory Board of the Sandra Day O’Connor Justice Price and the MD Anderson Cancer Centre, as well as the Board of Trustees of the Real Instituto Elcano, the Fundación Consejo España-EEUU and the Institute for Human Sciences. She is also a member of several think-tanks and organizations and a Visiting Professor at Georgetown University.
She was a member of the European Parliament (1994-2002), served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain (2002-2004) and was a member of the Spanish Parliament (2004-2006). She has been Senior Vice-President and General Counsel of the World Bank Group and Secretary General of ICSID (2006-2008), member of the Executive Committee and Senior Vice-President for International Affairs of AREVA (2008-2009) and has served on the Council of State of Spain (2012-2018).
She holds degrees in Law, Political Science and Sociology.
